You described so well all this questions that we need to realized at the end of this class. I was raised extremely conservative and to have the freedom to cut some chains of thought during this class I found extremely liberating. I realized this class is a great tool to utilize to help shape our children for a better more understanding society. I’m already applying in full a lot of ideas to my personal life as well as my interaction with others.

Thanks for sharing so many wonderful post!!!

I enjoy all your posts and I'm glad you enjoy this class as much as I did.

This class had a big impact in my life as well and you are correct to say that some classes just leave empty when it comes to real life teachings. This class provided so much information and to get to know people with their posting in their blogs seems impersonal but it is the total opposite.

Final Blog: Taking Charge

This class has been one of the best things that ever happened in my life. I realized how much I love these subjects and made me think deeper about my believes and the ones of the people that surround me. So many issues that I have not talk to anyone throughout the years, I finally was able to share and have an insight of other people's opinions. Talking about these issues with friends at parties and other occasions are unheard off and almost prohibited. I feel passionate about talking about issues and trying to understand behaviour, gender, communication, etc. There is a lot of work a head but being resilient and not giving up is one of the best qualities a person can have to make a difference in the life of another human being.
Taking the position in my daughters PTA is going to be life changing and almost very tough to break habits and stereotypes created by parents, teachers and students. This is one of the reason I accepted all this work to make a change in about 900 hundred families. One family at a time is the primary goal but eventually I will have reach all of them. A head of me are a million possibilities and communication is the key to success and remove fear.
Thank you to all of you for sharing so detail your thoughts and after thoughts.
I wish you all have the same empowerment that I gain from this class as women, mother and female citizen. If you want to make changes, you can't sit down and wait for them to happen or you can choose to participate actively in your community or at least start with your family.
I really hope you get the power to act in whatever subject you feel strong and make the neccesary changes to act. . Change is here...... get in the wave......

This is awesome. I always believed that it is something related with the DNA of each person. Information, journals and studies like this are getting closer to give some answers.

I once read about a pregnant woman who was carrying twins and she had a car accident. The impact was only in one side of her body and after that one of her twin girls switches to be men in adult life. Some doctors had theories that it could have been the stress in pregnancy and the released of hormones during the accident.

Incredible findings...thanks for sharing.

I experience this subject every day. I stay home and most of the people who are staying home around me are Dad’s. They have made the choice to stay with their children. It is beautiful to see it. They are as involved as mothers. Perhaps need a little more training in a couple things. However, they have no support when it comes to play dates and gatherings together with other moms’. I have tried my best to do it but you can always encounter attitudes from their wives. It is understandable that having mix sex play dates could create a whole other issue in these subjects. I’m hopeful that someday it could be a normal standard for the benefit of the children.

Great Post Glenn!!!! I agree with Dorit’s reply.

It is difficult to imagine that if someone wants to express love have to be kick out from a facility. I understand that there are conduct codes for public places in different states but it doesn’t make it right. I come from Miami were Miami Beach has one of the biggest gay communities and it is normal to show affection in public anywhere no matter what category you are. I understand is complicated for a parent to explain why some couples are same sex and all the details surrounding the topic but I believe is the right time to target the issue. I have already spoken about several subjects with my daughter and the more she knows according to age the better understanding children can have. They see displays of affection on TV all the time too… The less communication and knowledge, the more people will be shock when it happens in their surroundings. Even heterosexual couples are either exhibitionist and others are not. The blame is the fear of people to think that it can be contagious!!!

I really think is the people you are with not the place or location.

Week #6 Saving a life: Maternal and Paternal Insticts

You might wonder what this title is got to do with gender –stereotype. Something happened this weekend that change my perception of men.

For father’s day, I went to a Tyler Park in PA (http://www.bucksviews.com/Parks/Tyler/Tyler.htm), enjoy a great BB-Q with my family and after spending sometime cooking and enjoying each other’s company we decided to go for a walk to the dam and the pedestrian causeway. We enjoy the water, the view and some ice cream, etc. Meanwhile, there was a Dad with his daughter and another little girl about 6 years old. The two girls were playing in the water but somehow they started to get closer to the current of the creek. Her dad was talking to them to return but the girls were not capable of doing that. The current took them and suck them under water very quickly. There are about ten families around looking and observing what is happening.

I waited to see if her Dad was going to go after the girls but he didn’t. My internal voice told me “Alex, if you don’t jump in, the girls will drown," so I did. I jump into the water trying to get the first girl but most amazingly my sister jump in too to get the second kid. Struggling with the current and trying to get them floating was very hard. The children were so panic that all they wanted was get in top of our heads. Once we were under the bridge, it got deeper and it was still hard to get the girl floating. Swallowing water trying to let the little girl get more air than me was quite stressful because I have never been in a situation like this before and knowing that my sister is doing the same was very astonishing…How could we both be here in this situation??? . Everyone was observing what it was happening. I was starting to get worry that I might have to let go of the girl soon to catch my breath. Then, I heard my five year old boy talking to me and checking on me very clear like he was talking in my ear and that made me realized that If I could hear him, I was fine. My survival mode quick in and I was no longer scare after hearing his words. I gather my strength and grabbed the girl, turned her around, and immobilize her by getting her by the neck. She finally relax and I was talking to her while this is happening, to give her piece of mind. I was pretty much chocking by the time we crossed the bridge. Finally, this huge tall guy jump in and gets my girl from my arms and my sister made it to the other side.

After everything that happened that night, I had so many questions. I wonder why not men jump in??? Why people were frozen when everyone new clearly there was danger? Why her Dad didn't jump in and why he wasn't careful enough to see the danger coming??? They were sings of No Swimming everywhere but still he let the girls go deep enough.

Do men have different instincts that women?? Or Some men just don’t have paternal instincts??
